Time to act

The play Greenland does the message justice, limited only by the realities of theatre: it is not broadcast free of charge to every school and family on the planet, and presumably reaches an already-educated audience. Critics' reviews have ranged from fair — three stars from the Guardian's Michael Billington, who suggested it was 'unlikely to shift anyone's perspective' — to more dismissive, with two stars from West End Whingers, who made little constructive criticism.

It is a sad and poignant marker of a disillusioned society that would rather intellectualise than act. If ten per cent of the Greenland audience changed their shopping habits even slightly, used less plastic or learned more about sustainable living — and that rippled outward to friends and family — then actions would speak louder than words and every effort would be worth it.

If everyone put life and soul into pointing out the most pressing issues of our time, perhaps, just perhaps, we could begin to address them. Because if we want to do that, we all have to act right now.
